SIS wire, also known as switchboard or panelboard wire, is a building wire that is made of an insulated copper conductor, usually tin coated, with thermoset, cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation. SIS wire is used in dry locations for wiring electrical switchgear, control panels, substations, and equipment. SIS wire is available in a range of sizes from 18 to 4/0AWG.

National Electrical Code (NEC) sheet 310.104(A) describes Type SIS wire as switchgear and switchboard wire with flame-retardant thermoset insulation for use at temperatures up to 90 degrees Celsius.
